After years struggling to complete his first symphony, Brahms wrote to his beloved Clara Schumann that the solution came to him in a dream. The symphony transformed into his first piano concerto, launching the composer to fame by showcasing the awesome power of piano and orchestra. The concert opens with dreams of equality in composer Laura Karpman’s All American and Mendelssohn’s festive Fourth Symphony takes us on a fantastic Mediterranean journey through the Italian countryside.
