The Winston Salem Symphony presents: The Lark Ascending
Violinist Steven Moeckel returns to perform Vaughan Williams’s uplifting The Lark Ascending, in which the composer, in his wife’s words, “made the violin become both the bird’s song and its flight.” Elgar’s nimble “Enigma” Variations and Sibelius’s sublime Symphony No. 7 bookend the program. Margaret Sandresky’s Gaudeamus honors the Symphony’s 75th anniversary, Salem Academy and College’s 250th anniversary, and Sandresky’s 100th birthday. This piece was co-commissioned by Salem Academy and College and the Winston-Salem Symphony.
