Legendary saxophonist Branford Marsalis’s reputation as a jazz great is equally matched by his work as a brilliant classical soloist; here he performs a saxophone concerto by one of the world’s most-performed living composers, John Adams. This all- American program includes the joyous exuberance of Gershwin’s An American in Paris, which depicts bustling city life, complete with tuned taxi horns. William Grant Still’s sumptuous 1947 Fourth Symphony is a true celebration of the spirit of the American people. Former WSS assistant conductor Stephen Mulligan, most recently on the conductor rolls of the Atlanta Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, returns to the Stevens Center to lead this program.
